Create Device Groups

Device Groups allow easier management of Systems with more than 255 transmitters.

A Device Group is a Group containing one or more Receiving Devices.

To Create a Device Group

1.Select Admin then Device Configuration from the drop down menu, located at the right hand side of the top menu bar.

After selecting Device Configuration the default Database Logger Service Details window is displayed. See Figure 308 below:

2.Select Create Device Groups from the menu to display the Create Device Groups window. See Figure 309 below:

3.Enter the name chosen for the Device Group into the dialog box next to Group Name:

The Device Group Name should be a name that easily identifies the particular Device Group; something that represents the site where the receiving devices are located.

4.Select the Device Type that corresponds to your Receiving Device from the Device Type: drop-down menu.

There will be a label on the back of your Receiving Device that will identify the Device Type.

5.Enter a Logging Interval in seconds in the Logging Interval (Sec): dialog box.

The Logging Interval (Sec) is the interval between instances of the Hardware Service communicating with the Receiving Devices in the Device Group.

The minimum time is 60 seconds; settings below 60 seconds will be ignored and the Hardware Service will communicate with the Receiving Devices in the Device Group every minute.

When Receiving Devices are located in remote sites, a time period of 120 or more seconds is recommended to keep traffic on the network connection down.

For some devices, for example a CR2 Controller, the logging interval is not appropriate and the Logging Interval (Sec): dialog box is greyed out.

6.From the Create Device Groups window, select the Receiving Devices to add to the Device Group:

Available Receiving Devices will be listed in the left-hand Non-Members column.

Any Receiving Devices already in the Device Group will be listed in the right-hand Members column.

7.To add a Receiving Device to the Device Group:

Highlight it in the Non-Members column and then click the double right arrows to move it across to the right-hand Members column.

8.To remove a Receiving Device from the Device Group:

Highlight it in the right-hand Members column and then click the double left arrows to move it across to the left-hand Non-Members column.

You cannot de-select all Receiving Devices from a Device Group. A Device Group always has to have at least one Receiving Device in it. If you need to de-select all of the Receiving Devices from a Device Group, then delete the Device Group.

Note:Every Receiving Device must be in a Device Group, see examples below:

A Site with one Receiving Device and 25 transmitters would have the one Receiving Device in one Device Group.

A Site with 3 Receiving Devices and 200 transmitters would have all 3 Receiving Devices in the same Device Group.

A Site with 3 Receiving Devices and 400 transmitters, 200 transmitters going to 2 Receiving Devices and 200 transmitters, on a different frequency, going to the third Receiving Device would have 2 Receiving Devices in one Device Group and 1 Receiving Device in a second Device Group.

A Site with 3 Receiving Devices and 600 transmitters with 200 transmitters each, on a different frequency, would have three Device Groups each Device Group with one Receiving Device in each.

Each Receiving Device can receive data from a maximum of 254 transmitters; there can be multiple Receiving Devices in one Device Group providing the total number of transmitters going to those Receiving Devices does not exceed 254.

9.Once you are happy that the details are correct select Add Members.
